RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Equine Practice
Chris qualified from Glasgow University in 1992 and worked in several predominantly equine practices before joining Western Counties when it was formed in 2000. He holds the RCVS Certificate in Equine Practice, was one of the first vets to pass he BEVA/BVDA equine dentistry examination. Other areas of interest include racing and competition horses, surgery and diagnostics. Chris is also a member of the Association of Racecourse Veterinary Surgeons and is an FEI permitted treating Veterinary Surgeon. He has been elected to the Council of the British Equestrian Veterinary Association and sits on the Equestrian Sport Committee and Allied Professional Committee. When time permits he is keen to support his daughters at BE and BD competitions.

Eefje von Berg - Veterinary Assistant
MSc Cert AVP MRCVS
Eefje joined the practice in mid February 2017 having qualified at the University of Ghent in Belgium. She has worked in equine practice in Holland and more recently East Yorkshire. She has particular interests in equine medicine and anaesthesia.
Outside of work Eefje enjoys outdoor sports including riding, surfing, tennis and skiing as well as cooking - when time allows

Lydia Doster - Veterinary Intern
BA(Hons) VetMB MRCVS
Lydia qualified from Cambridge University in June 2016 and joined Western Counties in September to begin an 18 month internship with us. She is excited to get involved with all areas of equine work in the Hospital and is especially interested in medicine and foal care.
Outside of work Lydia can be found baking and exploring the outdoors with her dog Sidney.

Simon Joyner - Director

RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Equine Surgery Orthopaedics
Simon qualified from Cambridge University in 1999 and worked in a mixed practice in Northamptonshire where he was involved in setting up an equine unit before moving to Devon and joining Western Counties in March 2003. Simon became a partner in 2004 following the retirement of Brian Crawford. He is largely based in North Devon and Exmoor. He holds the RCVS Certificate in Equine Orthopaedic Surgery. His particular areas of interest include lameness diagnosis, orthopaedic surgery, stud work and AI.
Outside work Simon enjoys sailing and surfing. The family's first pony has arrived which will involve an increasing amount of Pony Club activities.

Robert Hanson - Associate
BSc Hons BVM&S MRCVS
Rob qualified from Liverpool University with a degree in Zoology and then went on to undertake a veterinary degree at Edinburgh University. He is at present completing his Advanced practitioner certificate in equine veterinary medicine and joined the practice here at Western Counties in April 2016. He enjoys all aspects of ambulatory equine work and will be coverng the Taunton area.
When not at work he enjoys travelling with Africa being next on the visit list! He is working on his riding, kitesurfing and Highland bagpipe playing in the meantime!

J David Stack - Associate/Lead Equine Surgeon
MVB MSc Dip ECVS MRCVS
David is based primarlily in the hospital where he deals with lameness and surgical cases. He adds considerable expertise to the existing team and further enhances the quality and range of services that we can offer to our clients.
David qualified from University College of Dublin in 2003 before travelling to New York where he worked for four years in equine veterinary practice. Subsequently returning to Ireland he established his own equine ambulatory practice focusing on imaging and treatment of sports and performance horses. He has just completed an ECVS large animal surgery residency programme at UCD and is highly experienced across all areas of equine surgery and orthopaedics and is passionate about maintaining the health and performance of the equine athlete

Hayley Parker - Associate
MA(Hons) Vet MB MRCVS
Hayley qualified from Cambridge University in 2013 and subsequently spent the Summer working at a racehorse hospital in South Africa and then as a volunteer vet at The Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust. Before joining Western Counties at the end of 2014, she completed a 12 month equine internship at a referral hospital in Leicestershire. Hayley enjoys all areas of equine work, particularly anaesthesia and medicine cases
Hayley works as part of the ambulatory vet team covering the North Devon and Exmoor areas as well as being part of the Hospital team.
Outside of work she enjoys skiing, running and watersports. She also has experience in eventing and used to play polo at university
