Respiratory disease is a common problem in many types of horse. We have the facilities to diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions from upper respiratory wind problems to medical conditions such as COPD.
We will frequently use Endoscopy as an aid to diagnosis of many repiratory conditions as this allows us to directly visualise the various parts of the respiratory tract. In addition it allows us to take samples from the airway in horses with lower airway inflammation which can be analysed in the practice laboratory to provide rapid, accurate results and guide treatment.
Where surgical treatment is required, for example for laryngeal or soft palate surgery for hoses that make a noise while exercising, this can be carried out in our operating theatre. This surgery is usually performed by visiting specialist Dr. Geoff Lane, a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons recognised specialist in soft tissue surgery and world renowned expert in upper respiratory tract disorders.
