HOSPITALISATION & FOAL INTENSIVE CARE
We have hospitalisation facilities for 14 horses at present, including boxes suitable for mares and foals, colic cases and a separate isolation unit for potentially infectious cases.
Several boxes are equipped to enable ongoing intravenous fluid therapy for dehydrated horses or colic cases. In addition we have stabling for 12 horses under one roof in large (12’ by 12’ minimum) loose boxes. These stables meet the latest requirements for equine hospitals.
We have individual small paddock turnout with post and rail or secure electric fencing, along side our movable roundpen.
For sick neo-natal foals we are able to provide oxygen supplementation, thermoregulation of environment and 24 hour nursing care. A moveable partition allows physical separation (but within sight) from the dam when necessary. We utilise a self contained “backpack” fluid therapy system for foals as, unless they are recumbent they tend to get tangled up with conventional systems!
